This is going to be a long post with a lot of photos…

After many years at an alternate location due to construction, the Christmas lights have returned to San Jacinto Plaza. Here is a collection of photos I captured over the holiday. Several of these photos are available for purchase as prints or digital downloads at El Paso Texas Photos.

The first few photos were shot using a PhaseOne medium format digital back on a Cambo technical camera. This set up requires a lot of patience because it is 100% manual and mechanical. However, the results are worth the effort.

The next few photos were created by placing the camera on a very tall tripod and raising it to a height of between 10 and 20 feet. The camera was controlled wirelessly using a CamRanger.

Placing the camera much higher than usual offers a unique perspective that helps break up the visual clutter present in these scenes.

The next set of photos were all taken hand held as I walked around the area to include the ice skating rink at Winterfest.

These final images were all taken with a very wide fisheye lens. This lens is a lot of fun and the distortion it creates can be used to make photos much more engaging.
